Principal Trombone at LA Philharmonic

Trombonist David Rejano Cantero was appointed Principal trombone of the LA Philharmonic in August 2016. David Rejano Cantero was born in Badajoz (Spain), and initially studied music at the Conservatory in Madrid. Then he moved to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, with professor Gilles Millière, where he graduated with the “Diplôme de Formation Supérieur – Mention très bien à l’unanimité” and the “Prix Spécial du Jury”.

As a student, David Rejano Cantero was a member of several youth orchestras, among them, the National Youth Orchestra of Spain -JONDE-, the European Union Youth Orchestra -EUYO- and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra -WEDO- (with Daniel Barenboim and Pierre Boulez).

Nowadays, he usually plays as Solo Trombone with the Berliner Philharmoniker, Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Paris, Los Angeles Philharmonic or the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, under the direction of conductors like Kurt Masur, Valery Gergiev, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel and Gustavo Dudamel.

From 2002 to 2007 David Rejano Cantero was Principal Trombone in the Orquestra Sinfonica de Navarra, and from 2007, Principal Trombone in the Orquestra del Gran Teatre del Liceo de Barcelona (Barcelona Opera House). Since September 2010 he serves as Principal Trombone with the Munich Philharmonic.

He is also Professor in the Brass Academy Alicante, the Maurice André Academy and he is also frequently invited to give master classes in Europe, Asia and South-America.

David Rejano Cantero appears frequently as a soloist in different worldwide Festivals, and plays exclusively on instruments Antoine Courtois.
